31 August 2006: The Eighth GMSTEC Meeting, hosted by Yunnan University in Kunming, Yunnan Province, PRC .

The eighth meeting of GMSTEC was hosted by Yunnan University in Kunming, Yunnan Province, PRC on 31 August 2006. This eighth meeting of GMSTEC was also the 4th Annual General Meeting of the GMSTEC Trust.

At this meeting, a range of issues were discussed including Membership issues, the Development Studies Workshop/Master of Management for GMS Development,  the GMS Phnom Penh Plan for Development Management, English Language Cooperation, PhD Cooperation, twinning, articulation and study abroad and capacity building project proposals. It was agreed that before the next meeting the framework for a business plan would be developed which would include ideas for where we might like to take GMSTEC, links to funding agencies, a projection of GMSTEC’s role and importance in 10 years time as well as relevant economic and political developments.
